"I began my employment here at the Hamakua Health Center in 1987 as a surgical nurse for the Hamakua Sugar Company. I am the chronic disease case manager and tobacco treatment specialist. My focus is on diabetes, asthma, hypertension, obesity and tobacco addiction. I also facilitate a successful diabetes support group in Honoka’a and am the co-director of the Hamakua Asthma Camp, a residential camp for Big Island children diagnosed with asthma, now in its 10th year. On weekends, I volunteer at the Laupahoehoe Train Museum and St. Anthony’s Church in Papaaloa where I serve as their parish nurse."

I would like to see the Hamakua Health Center become a household word for primary health care for the entire island. I will probably retire with the Hamakua Health Center, but I am looking forward to it. Until then, I will be here to help this community anyway I can."

Our van picks up prescriptions and also transports them to specialists in Waimea, Kona and Hilo before returning them to their home. This service is just one component of providing quality health care to our community."
